 Low angle Cowboy shot

The purpose of a low angle shot is to make the subject seem important, and powerful. It can show the audience that the character is intimidating or heroic. The cowboy shot stops right after the hip and is usually used to show some type of weapon on the character's hip. It also allows the audience to see most of the subject's body language and facial expressions.

For this shot I had my friend (Sofia A.), stand on a bench while I also bent down and tilted my camera up. This took a few tries to get the exact angle that I wanted, showing that she was looking around 'worry free'. I also wanted to show that it was windy with her hair blowing, to show the weather conditions and current setting.

Eye level Extreme close up shot

The purpose of an eye level shot is to create a sense of realism and connection with the audience.

The Extreme close up shot shows only one very zoomed in part of the subject (usually using a part of the face). The eyes in particular are used to show extreme details and specific emotions. They can also be called the 'choker' shot because they are meant to evoke a strong emotion from the audience.

This shot took me a couple takes because at first I had too much of the rest of the face included. I realized that I needed to zoom in more to capture little details and emotion in the eyes.

Over the shoulder shot

An over the shoulder shot is a shot where the camera is position behind the back of one character and facing another. This shot could be used to show the relationship between two characters, and create a feeling of intimacy and that the audience is "right there".

This shot was easy to create, especially because it is at eye level.

Point of View shot

A Point of view shot makes the audience see from the perspective of the subject. The purpose of a Point of view shot is to show the audience a new perspective. This shot is also often used in thriller or horror films.

This shot was slightly more difficult to create. I had one of my friends extend her arms while I put my phone in front of her face and tried to record her arms and the scenery.

High angle shot

A high angle shot is when the camera is looking down on the subject. The purpose is to make the subject seem vulnerable and weak in comparison.

To create this shot I stood on concrete blocks and pointed my phone downwards. The first time I tried to create this shot I was on the other side, and I had accidentally captured my shadow. Other than that, It was an easy shot to create.

I did a classmate critique on Sofia A. and Amaya B.

  2. I love the over the shoulder shot because it shows the conversation between the two characters. It shows the level of intimacy that they are having, and the description explains that perfectly.

  3. Hey, I liked your extreme close up shot since we were able to see the details of the subject more clearly. With this shot I am able to identify her emotions and focus specifically on one feature of the subject.

  4. I also really enjoyed your high angle shot and the process it took to capture this shot. In this angle, I can feel what the subject may be feeling which is a sense of vulnerability.

  5. I liked your low angle! Although it was really quick I was able to get an understanding of what angle you are showing. I was also able to get a clear view of the background to understand the setting
